Where to Actually Buy an Oversized Mattress: A No-Nonsense Guide

Who actually makes oversized mattresses

No mainstream brand — not Casper, not Purple, not Tempur-Pedic — makes a Wyoming King or Alaskan King off the shelf. The market is a handful of specialists that build to order:

  • Custom mattress makers that cut foam and hybrid designs to any dimension. Lead times run 2–6 weeks and pricing typically lands between $1,500 and $5,000 depending on size and construction.
  • Latex specialists that layer custom-cut latex cores. Heavier and pricier, but the most durable option at these dimensions.
  • Regional factory-direct shops — often the best value if one is near you, since freight on a 108" mattress is significant.

What to check before you order

  • Exact finished dimensions. "Alaskan King" should mean 108" x 108". Some makers round down an inch or two — fine, but you need the real number for your frame and your sheets.
  • Height (depth). Anything from 10" to 16" is common. Fitted sheets must match — ours are sewn to your stated mattress height, so measure after the mattress arrives and expands.

  1. Confirm the room fits the size you want (measure first).
  2. Order the mattress — it has the longest lead time.
  3. Order the frame in the same named size.
  4. When the mattress arrives, measure its true height, then order sheets with that pocket depth.
