What Size Sheets Fit an Oversized Bed? A Fitting Guide
You found the oversized mattress. Now the practical question: what actually covers it? The short answer — nothing from a department store. Here's what fits each format, what "deep pocket" really needs to mean, and how made-to-order bedding works. (Dimensions for every size are in the size guide.)
Why standard sheets won't stretch
A standard King fitted sheet is built for 76" x 80". A Wyoming King is 8" wider and 4" longer; an Alaskan King is 32" wider and 28" longer. Even the stretchiest King sheet will pop off a Wyoming corner by morning, and on an Alaskan it won't reach two of the corners at all. Flat sheets and duvets have the same problem sideways: a King duvet on a Family Bed leaves 30"+ of mattress bare.
What each size needs
| Bed size | Fitted sheet | Duvet cover (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Wyoming King | 84" x 84" + pocket | 104" x 98" |
| Texas King | 80" x 98" + pocket | 100" x 112" |
| Vermont King | 96" x 96" + pocket | 116" x 110" |
| Alaskan King | 108" x 108" + pocket | 128" x 122" |
| Family Bed | 120" x 80" + pocket | 140" x 94" |
| Two Kings | 152" x 80" (or 2 King sets) | 172" x 94" |
Duvet sizes assume a 10–12" drop on three sides; preferences vary, which is one more reason made-to-order wins at these dimensions.
Pocket depth matters more, not less
Oversized mattresses trend thick — 12" to 16" is common. A fitted sheet needs the mattress height plus 2–3" to tuck and stay. Every Dovie Home fitted sheet is sewn to your stated mattress depth rather than a one-size pocket, which is why they stay put on a 16" Alaskan King where a "universal deep pocket" gives up.
The fabrics we cut to these sizes
- 100% European flax linen — the heirloom choice; gets softer for decades.
- Bamboo lyocell — silky, cool-sleeping, the pick for warm sleepers under a shared duvet.
- Bamboo-linen blend — linen texture with a softer first-night hand.
Every sheet set and duvet cover set is sewn to order for the exact formats above — and if your mattress is a custom size not listed, we sew to your dimensions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use two Queen sheets on a Family Bed?
For a Two Kings split frame, two King sets work well (each side keeps its own top sheet — couples often prefer it). On a single Family Bed mattress, layered standard sheets shift and ridge; a single made-to-size set sleeps far better.
What size duvet fits an Alaskan King?
Roughly 128" x 122" for a proper drop. Ours are made to order with matching covers.
How long does made-to-order bedding take?
Each piece is cut and sewn after you order — current lead times are listed on every product page.
